A day in the life of a…

Behaviour Support Practitioner/Psychologist

Interaction’s team of registered and provisional psychologists take a positive approach to behaviour support, and are highly skilled in the provision of support needed for people with disability and their families. They facilitate individual and group skills training to assist people to build relationships and participate in the community, and work collaboratively with individuals, families and carers to improve their ongoing relationships. Our psychologists provide specialised early intervention, individual and group therapies that can flexibly meet participant’s current and future needs, and provide a range of individual assessments, training, interventions and therapeutic supports as part of an individual NDIS plan or through consultancy.

Part of a Behaviour Support Practitioner/Psychologist responsibilities are:

Assessment e.g. functional behaviour, capacity to consent, intelligence, mental health screening
Intervention plans e.g. behaviour intervention and support, incident prevention & response, skill development, psycho-education, environmental (e.g. routines, reward systems)
Clinical consultation – individual e.g. crisis and transition support, liaison with key stakeholders including medical and allied health teams
Clinical consultation – systemic e.g. house practices, integrating person specific PWS support needs, barriers to plan implementation
Therapy, individual and group e.g. emotion regulation, problem solving
Early Intervention e.g. transition to school, parenting and behaviour, sibling support

House Manager

Interaction’s House Managers are responsible for managing our Social Educators to deliver quality / person-centered / customer focused outcomes for participants being supported. Within the parameters of the role, the position is responsible for the quality of services, ensuring timeliness and working within the agreed budget. The role is also responsible for implementing a planned approach to the professional development of the team members.

Part of a House Manager’s responsibilities are to:

Provide direct hands on support to participants with intellectual disability
Have a good understanding of all their participants and their support team
Develop positive relationships with participants and their families
Coach, mentor and supervise Social Educators
Ensure participants are appropriately supported in exploring and resolving their needs, expectations and goals.
Have comprehensive knowledge of supports and services available.
Ensure: quality of service; effective communication with participants; confidentiality, diversity awareness
Ensures team members possess required knowledge and approach situations flexibly and creatively.
Understand significant stakeholder relationships and their importance.
Contribute to positive relationships with relevant stakeholders
