Housemate Required For Terry and Stephen

Posted: January 15, 2020

Terry and Stephen (right) are long term tenants at one of Interaction’s shared accommodation houses in Sydney’s Hills District.  We had a chat to Stephen to get first hand feedback on the type of person they’d love to have move in to the room that’s become available…..

What are the important things you would like us to tell people who are interested in becoming your housemate?
“Me and Terry want to be good friends with our new housemate, so if they LOVE FOOTY as much as we do that would be really good.  Terry goes for the Eels and I go for the Rabbitohs.”

Is there anything else we can tell people about to let them know about you and Terry, and what it’s like in the house?
“We love music too and we play different songs when we are at home.  I work sometimes and so does Terry, so if the person has a job as well it would mean we can talk to each other about our days at work.”

When do the Interaction Support Workers come to the house to help you with things?
“Every day someone comes over – our main Support Worker is Karen and we have two regular casuals come in over the weekends.  Because we go to work Monday-Thursday, Karen comes to the house in the afternoons/evenings, but she doesn’t sleep overnight. Staff help us with lots of different things and take us out too.  We’re all good friends.”

About the Vacancies
The Winston Hills property has a very spacious back yard.  Inside is very well maintained, with open living and dining space.  There are ramps and rails and front and rear entry (although internal stairs leading up to main house, as downstairs self-contained area is occupied).

Stephen and Terry have mild intellectual disability with moderate support needs.  If you are a male who has a disability, between 35-60yrs and looking to share a home with very social housemates
and be supported by great staff, then contact us today.  Download the flyer here.

Second vacancy available at this property – one bedroom flat underneath the main level of the house. There is a ramp at the front of the house to access the front door, and the tenant will be required to have NDIS core supports funding self-care and/or community participation to have access to ‘drop in support’ rostering and staffing.  This is the perfect opportunity for someone who would like a little more independence and privacy, with the added benefit of housemates just upstairs when they feel like some company!
